D Swain asked:

Unless you plan on clubbing fish with your rod, you’ll need a line to bring him in. There are a few things you need to know about choosing fly fishing lines. This article will give you a few tips.

Taper

One of the first things you need to consider when choosing line is the taper. You’ll have to decide between weight-forward and double taper. If you prefer roll casting, then you’ll probably want to use a double taper line. Weight-forward lines are better suited for use in windy situations.

Floating

When choosing fly fishing lines, you also need to choose between sinking and floating designs. If you want to use a dry fly, you won’t have a choice as you will be forced to use a floating line that sits atop the water.

Lines that sink are better suited for fishing in deeper water. However, you’ll probably have to retrieve all of the line if you want to cast again. This isn’t a problem when the line floats.

Size

Another important consideration is the line’s size or diameter. Thicker lines will be more durable. However, they will also be easier for fish to spot. Lines that are thinner have the benefit of giving certain lures more realistic action.

The diameter will also play a role in the line’s stiffness. Although stiffer fly fishing lines are more sensitive to fish activity, they’re usually harder for you to cast. If you’re going after stronger fish, you should consider buying line that stretches more, so that it doesn’t break easily.

Fun Games

Brian Bedford asked:

We’ve all been in your predicament. You’re looking for that well deserved promotion at work and you know one piece of information about the boss that nobody else knows (or they don’t want to admit), he/she loves to fish. He/She’s been bugging everybody in the office to spend some time on his luxury boat doing some freshwater fishing but the boss doesn’t get a nibble. Well it’s your turn at bat, get ready to strike a home run.

Ok, so let’s start with the basics. You are going to need to spend a little of that hard earned money at your local Walmart or Bait and Tackle Shop to bring your fishing tools into the new millennium. If you want to impress the boss, you don’t want to show up with your Snoopy Zebco Rod/Reel combo that you used twenty years ago to reel in those monster minnows. You need to sell yourself as an angler and not just a fishing person.

Just like Picasso needed an easel and nice set of paintbrushes, you need to get yourself a quality rod and reel. Most Bait Shops and Sporting Good stores sell those combo kits which will likely work for your situation. The great aspect of these kits is that the rod and reel are tailored for one another. Fishing rods (remove the words fishing pole from your vocabulary) come in just about every conceivable format. You’ll want to do some preliminary homework in determining where your boss plans to take you and what you will be fishing for. Try to work it in between your meetings about TPS reports and such. What you are interested in is what species of fish you are likely targeting. If you don’t want to seem to obvious, just find out what body of water you plan to fish and then open up old google and do a search for it with the keywords “fish report” added on. You will get a wealth of information from forums or local fishing reports regarding the body of water in question and the types of fish you are likely to catch. Once you figure out the species you’ll base your rod/reel purchasing off of that.

If you are targeting most species of fish (largemouth, smallmouth, panfish, walleye, catfish), you can probably get away with a five to six foot rod. Anything smaller could easily snap if you happen to tag a huge catfish or even a good size largemouth bass. Anything bigger and you’ll be whipping the lips off of those poor innocent panfish. Pay special attention to the limber quality of the rod. While Ultralight rods will give you a better feel for the bite, they will make reeling in that lunker that much harder and increase your chance of having to tell stories about the one that got away. Your best bet is to stay neutral and get a Medium weight pole. It will be sturdy enough for most breeds of freshwater fish.

Fishin Reels now come in mind numbing assortment of types and sizes. You might remember your old faithful Zebco reel where you never saw the fishing line, it just disappeared into the endless depths of snoopy’s mouth. These types of reels are known as closed faced reels. If you want to impress the man, forget this type. While it is the easiest reel to use, it is kids play. You need to look seasoned for your adventure. You might next notice the really pricey reels known as bait casters. Yeah, you’ve put in your time watching ESPN Bass Masters tournaments and noticed the pro’s using these types of reels like it was an extension of their arm. They just whip their bait out and yank in the lunkers. For your adventure, skip the bait casting reels. If any piece of fishing equipment can make a six foot, two hundred and fifty pound grown man weep in agony, this is the one. It takes years to get the right feel for this device and you will have better luck at figuring out a rubic’s cube (ahem, no pulling the stickers off) then trying to get a successful cast out of this reel. So my recommendation for your expedition would be the old faithful Open Faced Spinning Reel. Yes, you’ll need to do some practice casting before you venture out for your trip just to get the hang of this one. The sporting goods shop that you visit for your supplies should also sell little plastic plugs called practice or casting plugs. Get you a couple of these and practice in the backyard. Put a bucket out about twenty feet and see if you can hammer your plug home.

To make things even more complicated, you’ll notice some numbers on the spool (the part of the reel that your fishing line is wound around). Numbers such as 6lb/150yd, 8lb/100yd, 10lb/75yd. No, these are shot put records, these are the line capacities. Fishing line comes in various “strengths” which are measured in the good old English system, pounds. Basically, this is the maximum amount of fish poundage you could catch with the fishing line you have installed. So if you are going for catfish, which can easily get up into the twenty pound size, you’ll want a fishing line that is rated in that neighborhood. So your probably thinking, well why not just go big( i do it with McDonalds value meals, it should work here. right). Well, you’ll notice that the bigger the poundage the less line (measured in yds) you’ll be able to put on your reel. This means when you see the fish jumping out in the water 150 yds and you cast out with only 100 yds on your reel, you’ll fall short. Any you definitely don’t want to fall short in front of your new best friend. So it’s imperative that you match up your fishing line to the type of fish you are going for.

I’ve got two wonderful tips to give you when it comes to fishing line. Number one, pay that extra ten bucks and get an extra spool. Have the sporting goods shop string it up for you with a different pound fishing line just in case the fish get big. This is an invaluable back up plan in case you get the dreaded bird’s nest of death, one quick removal of the old spool and your back in action. Deal with the dreaded fishing string birds nest another day. Tip Number Two, remove your fishing spool from your fishing reel and drop it in a glass of warm water overnight. No, you won’t grow a fishing fairy that you can take along but what this does is help mold the line to your spool. This helps in preventing those birds nest after your bazillenth cast. Its one of the smartest things you can do with new fishing line.

So lets take tally of what you’ve got in your shopping cart..rod,reel and fishing line. Hmm, we seem to be missing something. Yep, we need some form of bait. Well this is where your research into where you’ll be heading comes in. Generally the information you find regarding what types of fish you will be catching will also point you into the direction of what these fish bite on. If you strike out online, ask the youngest looking employee in the fishing section of the sporting good store what the fish hit on at that particular lake. Why the youngest, because they have the most free time on their hands so they probably have the experience (I worked at a Bait and Tackle store for three years when I was in my teens. I worked there not because I needed the money, but because I got the scoop on the best fishing spots and also got a killer discount on bait and tackle). Go with their recommendations and stock up. If you can afford it, get at least two of each of what they recommend. The best fishing spots are also the best spots to loose fishing gear( think sunken tree’s). The worst feeling you can have is to be nailing the fish and loose the only thing they are hitting on.

So there you go. Armed with this basic information, you should be able to set yourself up for fishing success. One more thing to keep in mind, don’t catch more than your boss or you could find yourself out fishing for a new job.

If your looking for a great source of information regarding fishing Utah, including fishing reports, in-depth analysis of local lakes and other valuable data visit my blog at:

http://www.fishingutah.net

Visit Our Store

Nicholas Tan asked:

There will always be challenges whether one decides to fish either in the river or in the open sea. The important thing to remember is to have patience waiting for the fish and doing the best to catch it when it appears.

To be able to fish, a person would need to get a fishing license since this is requirement by law and the regulations regarding fishing varies from one state to the other.

Getting the right equipment for fishing is also an important factor in making that experience a memorable one. Using the wrong kind of fishing line or one that is made of poor quality will cause many problems such as tangles and lost fish.

There are 4 kinds available in the market. These are monofilament, braided, fused and fluororcarbon.

The Monofilament fishing line is the most popular of the four since it has been around for a very long time. It also works well in different fishing conditions. The problem with this line is that it has memory. This means that it has a tendency to keep to a certain shape if stored for some time. If a person does not fish often, it is best to purchase a line that is not very long and it is advisable to change it every time one goes out fishing.

Braided fishing lines are the strongest of the 4 available. These lines dont stretch and are quite easy to see since the woven nature of the line makes it float. The bad part about this line is also about its strength that causes abrasions on other things like ones hands, the fishing rod and the line that guides the reel. As such, one should have the right hardware around when using it.

Fused fishing lines are similar to braided fishing lines. The only difference is in the manufacturing process where fused lines are glued together with a coating applied over it instead of woven. This makes fused fishing lines share some of the difficulties with braided fishing lines such as making it difficult to cut without a sharp knife or scissors, its tendency to slide around a bit on the reel spool and its visibility to fish which will make catching fish a bit challenging.

Fluorocarbon fishing lines are getting more popular these days since fish are not able to see it in the water.

Romance Books

anonymous asked:

It is often said that the fishing rod is the foundation of any game fishing expedition. Just how well a fisherman can catch game relies heavily on how well he can handle his fishing rod.

It is also said that the lure, or bait, is the spice, the zest of such game fishing adventures. Just how simple or difficult it is depends on the kind of lure that the fisherman chooses.

Despite the reputation of success attained by fishing rods and fishing lures, however, they will equally fall short if the fisherman neglects to learn and master one vital component of the game: the fishing line.

Two fundamental actions are involved when using a fishing line:

1. Lure-casting. A good fishing line is required to guarantee that the lure is cast in the correct manner. This means that the desired angle and the needed distance are satisfied. This is especially significant in game fishing where every move, every action is critical to the success of the catch.

2. Spinning. With this movement, it gets a little tricky, a bit delicate. Logically, the fisherman wants a fishing line that’s strong and resilient enough so that it won’t break while reeling in the caught fish. The fisherman would also want a fishing line that’s most resistant to abrasion to ensure a smooth spin.

Therefore, from the required actions above, we can come up with the following necessary qualities of an ideal fishing line:

▪ Strength. The fishing line should be strong and durable enough so as not to break when reeling in the game it was made to catch. You shouldn’t measure this by just taking a line and pulling and stressing it with your hands to gauge or estimate its strength.

Experienced fishermen know and understand that the dampness or the dryness of the fishing line will affect its strength. Fishing lines that absorb water, such as monofilament lines, are not recommended for rainy or damp days, even cold and wintry days. The more durable and resilient cofilament lines are more ideal for such conditions. They cost more but its well worth it.

▪ Abrasion resistance. The fishing line should be resistant against friction and abrasion caused by contact with rocks or boulders, tough vegetation and other terrestrial and deep water objects.

Some fishermen frequently have to cut their fishing line every half hour or so just to ensure a fresh line if and when they do manage to catch a fish. This seems so unnecessary and more than a little wasteful in time and fishing gear.

Fluorocarbon lines have extra density compared to most other fishing lines. This makes them very resistant to abrasion.

▪ Stretch. Depending on the fisherman’s skill level, the fishing line’s capacity to stretch will play a critical role. For fishermen who are just starting out, the line’s stretch will provide some allowance for mistakes and mishaps, especially when fighting the fish.

But for clumsy, klutzy fishermen, on the other hand, setting up the hook or clasp could be easily miscalculated with a line that provides a lot of stretch. You’ve just got to pay close attention every time.

There are obvious advantages and disadvantages to using a fishing line that can or cannot stretch. Just keep in mind that the least resistant a line is to stretch is the more sensitive it can be for detecting a possible catch.

To be a successful fisherman, you should start with getting the right fishing gear. Part of this gear is the all-important fishing line. You surely don’t want to be losing great catches just because your line keeps snapping off. Match your fishing line to your game and location and you’ve got it good. Good luck!

Man Bling

Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Irrespective of your place of choice, be it the deep waters of the open sea or the clear running waters of the fresh water rivers, you are bound to face challenges on every fishing trip. How you deal with the challenges depends on your fishing experience. The crux of solving every fishing problem is having the correct amount of patience and knowing the habits of the fish you are after.

It is important to get yourself well versed with the fishing laws of the place you plan to cast your line. Different places have different fishing rules and laws that need to be adhered to. It is also important to learn some fishing etiquette before you start t on a journey angling for the different fish at the various places in the countryside. Only then must you begin to learn the ways to use your fishing line and tackle.

If you want to make a success of your fishing hobby you must have the correct equipment for the job. You must know which fishing line is best suited for the particular fish you are after because getting the wrong fishing line will result in many problems such as lost catches and tangles popularly known as ‘birds nests’

Basically you will find that the market has 4 different kinds of fishing lines to offer. These are ‘monofilament’ braided, fluorocarbon and fused fishing lines.

Monofilament Fishing Line

This is by far the most popular fishing line on the market and has been around for many moons. This kind of fishing line is well suited for almost all fishing situations. There is only one problem with this kind of fishing line, it tends to stay the shape it is stored in. So when you unwind the line after some tine you will find that he line stays curled or ‘spooled’.

Braided Fishing Lines

This is the strongest fishing line available. They do not stretch and easy to see in the water as it floats easily. The disadvantage of this kind of line is its strength. It can cause serious abrasions on anything it rubs against such as the angers hands and fishing rod guides.

Fused Fishing Lines

These are very similar to the braided fishing lines with the only difference being the manufacturing process of the line. These are a number of filaments that are fused together with glue rather than being woven together. This makes it difficult to cut through with a sharp object and it also tends to slide around on the reel making it difficult to wind tightly. Fish can spot the line easily which makes catching them quite a challenge.

Fluorocarbon Fishing Lines

These are gaining popularity among as it is virtually invisible to the fish and easy to store. So, once you have experimented with all the four categories of fishing lines you are sure to choose the Fluorocarbon Fishing Line as your preferred fishing line.

Ipod Super Site

Josh Neumann asked:

Being able to tie the right fishing line knots is extremely important to being an effective fisherman. Unfortunately, many fishermen are unaware of how to do fishing knots properly. Here are some important tips to help you to find out this information, and help you start benefiting as a result.

First of all, before you learn the right fishing knots to try, remember that this will all depend on whether or not you are a fly fisherman or a regular fishermen, whether you enjoy kayak fishing, bass fishing, salmon fishing, etc. Although there are certainly a lot of different lying knots used in fly fishing, the most common are generally pretty easy to tie.

The basic ones are the arbor knot, Albright knot, nail knot, double surgeon knot, and also the improved clinch knot. Remember, there are certainly many more knots than these that have proven worthwhile, but the ones listed are generally the most effective, and the most commonly utilized by the top fishermen.

The Arbor knot is connected to the fly real to the backing. The Albright knot is generally utilized to connect the backing to the fly line, the nail knot usually gives you the connection between the fly line in the letter, and the improved clinch not make sure that the fly is connected to the tip to it. Of course, these may seem very hard understand at first, but the more you do it, it will become like clockwork. You won’t even think about the process of tying your fishing line knocks once you become an avid fisherman.

Of course, you need to make sure that the knots are all on tightly before you go out fishing. In order to do this, pour some water on and then pull gently on them to make sure that they are secure.

Even seasoned professionals don’t do this on occasion, and they pay as a result, because the fishing line knots can come loose and portions of erotic can follow the water. Also, another drawback is that the fish might escape from the line and simply get away.

Always remember that the equipment should be discarded immediately once it is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. Remember, no matter how good a fisherman you are, you can only be as good as the equipment you are using. If you are using the equipment how you can never be as effective as you otherwise might.

Obviously, this is simply a quick introduction to the art of tying fishing line knots, and they’re still much for you to learn. However, there is certainly some very good news; there are a lot of books that have been written on time fishing nets, and you can certainly learn from the best.

Also, try to go out fishing with other good fisherman’s you know, and find out which knots work best for them. This is a great, because you can take advantage of knowledge that they’ve gained from years of fishing, and therefore rapidly accelerate your learning curve on the art of fishing and fishing knots.

The best way is to take a course in fishing from experienced fishermen, and find out what is effective for them. Whether you want bass fishing tips, salmon, etc, you can find the right course to meet your needs. Hopefully these fishing line knots tips will help you to find the most effective knots for your fishing needs and help you to start learning the art of fishing as quickly as possible.

Every thing you need for your own home bar

Trinity Anderson asked:

Ok, you’ve been asked to design a great fishing line. Here are just a few of the goals you have to satisfy:

1. It should be super strong, but not so strong that it can’t break. Better to break your line than your fishing rod. It has to stretch somewhat, but not too much.

2. It should glide through your guides during casting and rewinding with minimal friction, cast far and accurately, then come back in with little effort. But it also has to allow the drag mechanism to work effectively, to put resistance on a fighting fish. It has to hold a knot well, too.

3. It should be light enough to cast far, but have no ‘memory’. Memory is the feature of line that, for example, causes line to remain curled from being on the spool, kinked after being knotted.

4. It should be immune to cold, heat, sunlight, saltwater and slime.

And, oh by the way, all those (and many more) criteria come before even discussing that it has to be easy to make in large quantities and sell for only a few dollars. If a spool of fishing line could sell for $1,000 engineers would have a lot easier time designing it!

When working on the first goal, line designers have to carefully balance just when the line should snap. You don’t want to let that good one get away, but you don’t want to break a fishing rod when that big guy leaps up and runs away. As part of that effort, fishing line comes in different ‘test weights’. That is, it may be 4 lb, 10 lb, 12 lb, 20 lb and so on.

To satisfy the second goal, fishing line makers have to be sure that the line is abrasion resistant. It has to stand up well to scraping over rocks, the edge of the boat, and so forth.

To create a good knot, a fishing line has to have some inherent friction, though. Otherwise, the knot would slip right out the first time there was the slightest tug on it. Line also has to be somewhat flexible, lest the angler be forced to spend ten minutes trying to tie something that feels like wire. Imagine what a surgeon would have to go through tying stitches with bad surgical line, for example.

Creating line that has little memory is a whole combination of science and art all its own. Anyone has noticed, for example, that a string wound around a stick has no memory. Unwind it and it hangs limply. Plastic or nylon, on the other hand, may well be curled when it comes off the stick, especially if it was curled on in the sun and unwound after it cooled in the shade. Once kinked it stays kinked.

One aspect of creating line with no memory is to try different materials, manufactured in various ways. Materials scientists spend years experimenting to get just the right balance.

At the same time, those same scientists are looking for materials that don’t wear out from exposure to UV light, extreme temperature changes, being dipped in water that contains salt and other chemicals. They may devise a monofilament or a braid to add geometry to help that material do its job.

So, next time you’re asked to design fishing line, just say “No, thanks” and be grateful there are so many good ones on the market to choose from already.

Romance Books

It’s a great rod/reel combo, but the line is plain horrible. It has the highest memory i have ever seen on a fishing reel. I’m going to buy some line (I used up the last of my Stren Extra Strength 14 lb. on the baitcaster.) and i need an idea on what line.

I want the lowest-memory possible (I don’t really care if it’s not cheap, but it would help out if it were cheap.)

I want strong, abrasion resistant line, when I’m catching carps/catfish.

And i want it to be available in at least 15 lb. version. It’s a huge reel, and it can hold a lot more line than that.

Thanks.

Mens Wear
